CREATE AND PAINT YOUR OWN IKEBANA FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

In this workshop, botanical artist and Depo owner, Jules Webster, will walk you through the process of creating your own Ikebana inspired flower arrangement, and then teach you how to combine watercolor, acrylic and colored pencil to draw & paint it.
You will learn the basics of cutting and arranging flowers in a simple and elegant way. We’ll then use a combination of drawing and painting materials to capture the essence of your floral creation. This class will also include a basic to intermediate drawing lesson, an explanation of how to select the best art materials to use for each type of flower or plant material, and brush technique drills to explain how to make beautiful elegant shapes in paint. Simple color theory will also be discussed.
Students will walk away with a lovely flower arrangement and a completed artwork of their floral creation. Bring sharp scissors or garden shears to cut flower stems. All other materials, including professional quality art supplies, 9” round Ikebana style “moribana” container, two metal flower frogs and all plant & flower material will be provided. Students get to keep the moribana container and flower frogs to reuse at home.
Note from the instructor: I prefer to create mixed media drawings and paintings of my Ikebana flower arrangements in my Holbein Multi-drawing Sketchbook. If you would prefer to draw and paint in your own sketchbook, you are welcome to bring it. If you have any interesting flowers in your yard you’d like to clip and bring, you are also welcome. I will provide 9x12” white “Paint On” paper for the class and all the other materials required including flowers. Class may finish earlier than 4pm. Feel free to bring a water bottle and peanut free snack.
Cancellation Policy: We will refund 50% for any cancellation made at least eight days before the class. After 8 days, we are unable to provide refunds for any reason, including illness. If you cannot attend after registration, you are welcome to gift your tuition to a friend at no charge. We do not transfer tuition from one class to another.
