MIXED MEDIA DRAWING AND PAINTING

Join Art Supply Depo owner and landscape artist Jules Webster for a fun, two-session hands on workshop exploring a wide range of drawing & painting materials on different colored papers.
In this workshop, Jules will explain how to select a paper, paint, brushes and drawing tools that are appropriate for your medium of choice, the look you desire, and scale of your artwork. Students will also learn how to design an artwork with an appealing value range and composition, and get the chance to test out several different drawing and painting mediums.
Participants will try out different painting materials as a base layer including acrylic ink and Gansai Tambi watercolor paint with appropriate brushes. On top, we'll layer acrylic Posca and Edding markers, and Caran D'ache Oil Pastels and NeoColor II crayons.
Students will work through a series of mixed media artworks in this workshop. The first few will be from a shared reference photo that all students will use. Students are welcome to bring their own source photos to work on for the last class, or may work from references provided by Jules.
Attendees will leave with a few small artworks on paper and an understanding of how to layer mixed media drawing and painting tools. You will learn how colored paper and underpainting affects the mood of the finished work and be able to select the optimal materials for success. Most art materials, reference photos and handouts will be provided.
Students should bring: A notebook or sketchbook for taking notes. Jules also suggests having a fully charged cell phone handy to take pictures of drawing tools to assist with remembering "what is what" when you get back to your studio.
