ACRYLICS FOR BEGINNERS



This workshop is designed to give you an overview of everything you'd need to know to paint in acrylic. Lessons are presented in order to build a solid foundation of skills and knowledge regarding Acrylic painting.

A sample schedule is listed below. We will speed up or slow down based upon time requiried for students to comfortably complete lessons.

Class one: How to set up a workspace, types of acrylic from thin to thick, brush selection, mineral vs. modern colors, overveiw of painting surfaces, making mini test paintings of simple shapes to learn brushes, surfaces, and paint viscocity. Learning how to select the right brush and paint formula to make nice looking marks.

Class two: How to mix colors, completing a color wheel, creating mini test paintings to learn how mineral, modern, and "convenience colors" affect the finished artwork. Look at professional artist's paintings to see how color and brush selection affect the finished painting. 

Class three: Design lesson - learn about how shape and value are critical to making an interesting painting. Create several small "sloppy" and loose paintings to learn how color and value affect the painting. Learn traditional composition schemes used by painters to make better paintings. Discussion of what to add or change from a photo to make the best painting possible.

Class four: Create a small painting on paper using acrylic ink

Class five: Create a small painting on gessoboard using fluid acrylic

Class six: Create a small painting on canvas using heavy body paint

Class seven: Open Studio - Start a new painting from your own photo, finish a painting from one of our prevous classes or bring something from home to finish or improve upon.

Cancellation Policy: We will refund 50% for any cancellation made at least eight days before the class. After 8 days, we are unable to provide refunds for any reason, including illness. If you cannot attend after registration, you are welcome to gift your tuition to a friend at no charge. We do not transfer tuition from one class to another.


Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: This class is for beginners and intermediate painters who may have some experience, but want to brush up on basics and ask questions of a professional in a safe and relaxed environment.

Requirements: Jules asks that all students arrive on time or 10 minutes early so workshops can begin on time.

Instructor Bio: Julie (Jules) Webster is an American landscape painter, b. 1983. A former potter and metalsmith, Jules approaches two-dimensional painting with a strong materials-based sensibility. She is an educator, entrepreneur, community arts advocate, art materials expert, and the owner/ founder of The Art Supply Depo. With two locations located in Sylvania + Bowling Green, Ohio, The Art Supply Depo provides high quality art materials, employment opportunity, exhibitions and educational workshops for adults and teens.
