PIGMENT STICK WORKSHOP
R&F Pigment Sticks are oil paint blended with beeswax that can be applied on a surface as either a drawing or painting tool. In this workshop, students will learn how to apply, blend, and combine pigment sticks with oil paint, Gamblin cold wax, other art materials to complete a finished test artwork, or two if time allows.
Students will work through a series of steps in this workshop. We'll sketch the outlines of our subject and learn how to layer oil paint, pigment stick, and draw back into the wet paint to add detail.
Attendees will leave with 1-2 test artworks on Arches Oil Paper and an understanding of how to layer mixed media drawing and oil painting tools.
All artist quality paint materials will be provided. Students are required to purchase a single sheet of 16x20" Arches Oil Paper to participate. You are also welcome to purchase a pad of Arches Oil Paper if you know you will use it at home. Please also bring your own (non-portrait) reference photos if you'd like to work from your own photo.
Please note: Pigment sticks are a bold, expressive material. It is helpful to select a photo that is not overly detailed to work from.
This class will include a 15 minute break. You are welcome to bring a beverage and snack. Pigment Sticks are a messy medium. Beverage containers should have lids. Dress for mess. Please also bring a flat box to transport your wet oil painting(s) home with you, or lay down plastic in the back of your trunk in advance. Due to the amount of materials and space required, this workshop has a limit of 4 students.
