ACRYLIC PAINTING: COLOR BLOCKING + GLAZING
Students bring an image of their choice to work from (please no people portraits - animals are ok). The intent of this workshop is to go beyond the scope of a traditional acrylic painting class and teach students more in-depth concepts to help execute the painting we'll work on in the class, and to make better choices in the future when working at home alone.
You will learn how to modify a reference photo to make it more interesting, how to transfer an image onto a surface, how to select colors for your underpainting and painting to achieve your artistic intent, how different viscosities of paint work, the difference between mineral and modern pigments, how to color block large areas and how to glaze. Some prior painting experience is required. If you are not sure if you are ready for this class, please call and ask for Jules to discuss at 419-720-6462.
Class One: Discussion of intent: Classical vs. Contemporary color and what to select. Modifying your image for better composition, transferring your image to your surface, basic color-blocking, painting in highlights and shadows.
Class Two: Continuation of painting highlights and shadows, building the foundation for your painting
Class Three & Four: Glazing the painting to completion.
Students who finish early are welcome to begin another painting they can complete at home.
